Back in the 80's my older sister thought it would be a great idea to scare the kids she was left behind to babysit. She and her friend gathered us up into a room that had been a day room with a door that led directly to the roof. She began with a story about how in the dark, a pair of eyes were always watching from a tree outside. And late at night you could hear the deep howl in the night of the creature in the trees. She said not to be fooled because it made the sound of an owl and it lured little children outside. When suddenly she jumped at us and scared us all. I remember bolting out of the room and to hide in the living room behind a coffee table and pulled in a pile of pillows over me and cried. I believe when my mom returned she was not very happy with my sister. Even now, she relishes the story of the night she scared me with the owl.
